After a year of fundraising, in 2018 the Barn celebrated the delivery of over £200k for some well needed improvements to the foyer and box office areas, as well as the development of neighbouring sheds to create a new craft store and workshop space to showcase local makers.

‘The development works are intended to improve our visitor experience of the site and extend our day-time offer.’ Lorraine Grant, Director.

Work began on site in October 2018 and the new craft store, FOLD opened its doors to the public on Saturday 22 June 2019.

Officially opened by the CEO of Visit Aberdeenshire, Chris Foy said; “FOLD is a fantastic asset for tourism in Aberdeenshire. High quality, local arts and crafts are sure to be a hit with our visitors.” Chris Foy, CEO Visit ABDN

FOLD has grown out of the success of the Barn’s annual craft and design fair “flock”, which is the largest event of its kind in Aberdeenshire, and our growing national reputation for supporting contemporary craft and design.

‘We are delighted to be supporting and showcasing makers, working both locally and nationally in the fields of craft and design.’ Tracey Johnson, Craft Development Manager.

Available to buy in FOLD is the Hamewares Collection.  A range of unique contemporary craft products specially commissioned by the Barn to celebrate the rich environment and cultural distinctiveness of Royal Deeside and Aberdeenshire.

Other makers featured in FOLD include: Tom Pigeon, Gavin Burnett Ceramics, Kate Trouw, Mimmi Hammill and Megan Falconer.
