Poetic Licence

Thursday 4 July 2019 @ 7:30 pm

Portgordon Village Hall

Thursday 4 July 2019

Company Gavin Robertson

Ages 14+ (mild swearing on occasion)

Greg makes a swift return following NEAT’s shows in 2018:

“Describing Byron as a “Spoken Word performer” or even “poet” is like calling Bill Bailey “a musician who tells jokes” or Winston Churchill “a politician who smokes” – not technically incorrect but it doesn’t tell you the whole story. It’s like watching John Cooper Clarke snog John Hegley…”  BBC RADIO

The man behind the mask, Theatre performer Gavin Robertson, has appeared twice in the Edinburgh Festival and recently returned from shows in Australia. He explains: “I’d made two solo theatre shows and was looking for the third – but with everything in the world right now I was too angry to make Theatre. I went to Florida to write for a month and what came out was poetry about UK benefit cuts, Trump, Brexit, memory, science, pollution, social injustice, trophy wives … all sorts of stuff. And the world’s not got any better so I’m still writing!”

So is it all ranting and shouting!?

“Oh no! There’s a wry kind of sarcasm throughout, but Greg has his lighter moments, he’s warm and twinkly! Any show needs light and shade, and it’s intimate, much more so that doing a theatre show…”

****1/2 “A wonderful wandering Bard” (Samela Harris, Barefoot Review, Adelaide 2018

“A unique blend of theatre, cabaret, spoken word and comedy – the result works incredibly well!” (Barry Lenny, Broadway World, Adelaide 2018)

***** “Compelling to watch” The Guardian (UK)

***** “Keeps you constantly engaged- impressive” Kansas City Star (USA)

GREG has appeared in Japan, UK and USA – on beaches, in forests, festivals, bookshops, tents, restaurants and bars.
