Production Submission

January to August 2019

We are currently looking for productions suitable for rural touring into small village halls across the North East of Scotland

Closing date for submissions :    Sunday 9 September 2018

SELECTION PROCESS

We receive on average between 80 and 120 submissions per programming season.

Our Volunteer Promoters are responsible for choosing the productions which they wish to promote and they are clear that a selection menu of between 30 to 35 productions is a manageable amount of productions to consider.

In order to curate a diverse menu we consider a number of factors

  • fee
  • genre or artform
  • age suitability
  • technical requirements
  • production scale
  • quality of previous work
  • content
  • target audience
  • touring dates

SELECTION MENUS

We produce two versions of the Volunteer Promoter Selection Menu

FEE

  • Please make sure that your fee reflects your full costs including VAT, accommodation, travel, meals etc.
  • We cannot add additional costs to your fee at a later date.
  • We are not VAT registered so please add VAT if applicable to your fee.
  • We are committed to paying companies and artists a fair fee for their work. If your production is programmed we will guarantee your fee.
  • NEAT will not expect you to take unfair box office splits and neither will we enter into lower fee negotiations, however if we are able to offer you a longer run of performances we may ask if a slightly lower fee is achievable.
  • In order to create a vibrant and sustainable creative sector we place great value on the quality of your work and the real cost of touring work to rural venues, however as a small organisation we have a limited programming budget..
  • Our commitment to guaranteeing your fee means we are limited in the number of productions we can programme.

PROGRAMMING & DATES

Due to the nature of our programming process it’s not as simple as looking in a diary and choosing a date. We programme into around 30 village halls and they all have busy diaries with regular bookings, we don’t have direct access to venue diaries.

It’s therefore a massive logistical jigsaw to programme each production into the various venues.

We also have to avoid booking the same production into neighbouring communities to increase the chances of building a reasonable audience for each performance.

For the forthcoming season (Jan – Aug 2019) in order to try an increase your chances of having bookings we are offering you the opportunity to either select specific dates that work for you or you can select the best months for touring to the North East and we will then discuss specific dates when we know the number of interested venues.

NEAT is committed to making your tour to the region as logistically sensible as possible to aid travelling time, costs and make touring greener and more sustainable.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Our venues are small to medium sized village halls with little or no technical equipment

NEAT cannot cover the costs of any additional technical equipment

Requesting venues to provide certain technical equipment will not necessarily mean that your production will not be selected for the menu but it may limit the number of venues who choose to programme your work.
