Made by the Sea

Sunday 25 June @ 11:00 am

Scottish Traditional Boat Festival @ The Salmon Bothy, Portsoy

Sunday 25 June 2017

11:00 am

This film has been classified as BBFC certificate PG

Join independent curator Shona Thomson for a fascinating big screen presentation of life on Scotland’s coasts and seas with a unique selection of archive films of Scotland and the Portsoy area from the National Library of Scotland Moving Image Archive. From high drama on the fishing boats to popular seaside destinations, the sea has an important part to play in our national moving image collection.  Shona will be screening films of Scottish coastal life from as early as 1908 alongside a wonderful record of village life in 1950s Portsoy, Cullen and Aberchirder filmed by local cinema manager William Davidson and accompanied live by local musician Guy Burgess.

The screening will be followed by an informal blether and we’re delighted to welcome Mr Davidson’s son Bill Davidson along to talk more about his father’s films.

On tour across Scotland, Made by the Sea is part of the BFI Britain on Film project, making thousands of newly digitised film and TV titles from archives across the UK available to view online.  Britain on Film is supported by Unlocking Film Heritage awarding funds from The National Lottery: www.bfi.org.uk/britain-on-film.
