Northumberland Theatre Company
This lesser known tale from Charles Dickens is straight out of Peaky Blinders via The Suspicions of Mr Whicher (but set a bit earlier than both).
This production is aimed at an audience of adults and young adults age 13+, and reunites a creative team who have worked on shows together for more than 10 years and will be low-tech, yet powerful, meaty realism and melodrama. Pure theatre!
The company are looking forward to getting their teeth into this truly gothic tale of mystery and suspense which begins with a bang – a double murder.
Apprentices plot against their masters, fathers and sons fall out spectacularly, there’s blackmail, abduction and violent clashes on the streets of London. As you would expect with Dickens, there are some brilliant characters (including quite a few villains, mysterious strangers and some ghostly apparations). Plus Barnaby has a talking pet raven called Grip.
Northumberland Theatre Company have a long reputation in rural touring across the UK, and sometimes they’ve been so popular we’ve struggled to get dates to offer you!
More recently however, we’ve ‘got in there quick’ and have been able to offer shows such as ‘Rallying Round’, ‘The Wife of Gallows’ and last year’s ‘How to make a killing in Bollywood’.
